ASHRAE San Diego October 2020 Newsletter

Dear San Diego ASHRAE Members, Students, Retirees and Guests:

Welcome to the new year of ASHRAE.  Our new board was sworn in June and I am honored to service as your new Chapter President for the next calendar year.

As we all face the challenges this recent year has seen we will try our best to continue on as close to normal as we can.

For the time being we will continue with our monthly meetings in the virtual setting.  While we hope to return to in face meetings as soon as we can, unfortunately, we do not yet know when that will be.  We will continue to reevaluate this stance and will try to get back to our normal in person meetings when we can.  These virtual meetings will be provided free of charge.  However, one benefit to having virtual meetings is that ASHRAE has eased the limit on the number of Distinguished Lecturer (DL) speakers, since travel is no longer required, so we hope to bring in multiple DLs this year.

While many things are still up in the air, we will still try to hold many of the same events we have in the past.  Rather than our typical Holiday Party this year, we plan on pushing our party back to the spring/summer time and changing the theme, and instead hold a regular chapter meeting in December this year.  Decisions on other events are yet to come, however, we hope we can get back to a normal schedule in the next year.  At this time we still hope to have our golf tournament as normal in the spring.

On behalf of your San Diego Chapter of ASHRAE, we understand that this current health crisis is impacting all of us and our highest priority must be to the health and safety of our entire membership, our colleagues and our families.  We hope that everyone stays safe and remember that we are a community and that we are here for each other if needed.

I want to thank every officer, BOG member, and committee chair for the work that you do and I look forward to working with you all over the next year.
