ASHRAE Scholarship Program

In the HVAC&R industry, economizers are used to reduce heating and cooling costs. The ASHRAE scholarship program also serves as an economizer, helping reduce the financial burdens of obtaining your engineering education. Without you, the future leaders of the HVAC&R industry, we at ASHRAE wouldn’t be able to do what we do. So through our scholarship program, we aim to help you do what you do—learn. Apply today!

Through its scholarships, ASHRAE seeks to motivate students and prospective students worldwide to pursue an engineering or technology career in the HVAC&R field. The Society’s Scholarship Program also serves the public interest by aiding in the education of men and women to become qualified to practice as engineers in HVAC&R.

Over the course of 27 years ASHRAE has awarded more than $1.5 million to over 300 deserving students.

Beentjes_Trane_2015-108W.jpg“I was fortunate to receive the letter … informing me that I was the recipient of the Reuben Trane Scholarship as I was studying for my fourth mid-term exam…and I was unusually tired.  Your generosity turned the tide for my studying, and the exam.

I am supremely grateful for the scholarship that in one package addresses financial concerns and also bestows prestige on my efforts.  I realize there were many distinguished candidates who deserved the accolade of the Reuben Trane Scholarship and yet you selected me.  I thank you for recognizing the sacrifices I have made to get to this point.  One of my favorite quotations is from Charles Dickens’ novel David Copperfield “Whether I shall turn out to be the hero of my own life, or whether that station will be held by anybody else, these pages must show.”  You, the ASHRAE’s Scholarship Trustees, are the most recent heroes of the pages of my life.  I thank you for reminding me that there are heroes. ”

Ivan Beentjes, University of Waterloo, Mechanical Engineering ASHRAE Reuben Trane Scholarship Recipient, 2015-2016

Rana_ET_2015-125W.jpg“I am not sure I would have reached this level in my educational pursuit without ASHRAE’s benevolent support. Your generous awards have not only helped me financially, but they have given me hope, encouragement, and tremendous self-confidence. Without support such as yours, I could not have attained my educational goals.”
“Your scholarships have helped me not only overcome financial hurdles but have given me a strong confidence and moral boost to make it so far in my educational journey. As a result of your generous scholarships, I have been able to devote more time to my studies and will be able complete my coursework in a timely manner.”
Yoginder Rana, Ferris State University, HVACR Technology, ASHRAE Bachelor Engineering Technology Scholarship Recipient, 2015-2016

Cojocaru2_Reg IV Bootle_2014-125W.jpg“Thank you for the privilege to be one of the recipients of an ASHRAE scholarship.  I am deeply thankful for this blessing.  I pray to God that He will help me use it wisely, so that good purposes may be accomplished.  I am currently enrolled in a General Engineering program, but I hope to one day be beneficial to the HVAC industry in particular.  ASHRAE has encouraged my interest in HVAC systems. Last semester I took a course in Thermal-Fluid Sciences, an introduction to thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and heat transfer.  I studied concepts like the refrigeration cycle and energy efficiency. Thank you for the support you gave me in my studies.”

Lauriana Cojocaru, Bob Jones University, General Engineering
ASHRAE Region IV Benny Bootle Scholarship, 2014-2015

Bialas_HS_2015-125x125.jpg“I am very grateful for having received your scholarship.  I have been very concerned about being able to pay for my college education, receiving this scholarship will be very helpful, thank you.  While continuing to do my best in school, volunteering, and staying involved in many extracurricular activities, I also worked a few hours.  I really enjoyed working at these places and learned many useful skills in effective communication.  Both positions, along with the activities I have been involved in have given me a well-rounded background to help me prepare for college.”

Brooke Bialas, South Dakota School of Mines, Mechanical Engineering, High School Senior Scholarship Recipient, 2015-2016
